Sewing machine fire
I am so sad.... My sewing machine decided to burn its wires to its lite bulb and start a fire tonight ....... It's a brand new machine : (..... I am so sad right now.... I have called my dealer and she told me to bring it back and she will replace the whole machine.....thank goodness for warranties my machine is a little over a month old... I would have taken it back tonight but its a three hour drive to bend Oregon. It will have to wait until next weekend..... I feel lost..... Thanks ladies for listening all I can say is thank goodness I was in the same room when it decided to burn or I would have lost everything .... Gotta be thankful for that at least..I hope everyone is havein a better night then I am!!!!

Re: Sewing machine fire
How scarey for you, we had a house fire 4 years ago which was not fun, moving out for 5 months whilst roof was rebuilt, house repainted, and having to replace so much stuff
. A lesson for us all.
Remember, people will see your quilts long after you are gone. . . Not your housework!!

My machine is unplugged at all times when it is not in use. It's an expensive for me Bernina and I won't take any chances. I'm glad you are getting a replacement. Did you look online to see if that's a common complaint for that machine?

How scary is that? I am thinking I wouldn't want to get the same model. I would be scared to death it would happen again. I would certainly check consumer reports to make sure there is not a recall on it. You definately had someone watching out for you. Good luck with your new machine.

Well, that blows. Glad you noticed it right away.
Hehe, our toaster did the same thing a few months ago. Freaked my husband out, who was using it at the time. It dawned on me after how long it had been since I replaced the cord. The toaster was my grandma's. The "new" cord on it was about 35 years old. The toaster is 60+ years old. Bought a new toaster, but still have the old one. I'll replace the cord again and use it. Best toaster I've ever had.

Karen - It's amazing that you own a toaster that has lasted that many year!
Steph - Most bizarre sewing machine story yet! I assume it happened when you turned on the machine?

Re: Sewing machine fire
Steph, so sorry to hear about your machine! How scary! I was in your neighborhood this past weekend at the Sisters Quilt Show, such beautiful territory! Hope you can get back to sewing very soon.
