Default Traveling by plane with sewing machine?

Has anybody traveled by plane with a sewing machine? How is it best to carry it? Carry on or checked baggage! Needles out? I'm thinking of taking one of my small machines to my sister's, to work on a project for her new home.

    Jean,

Definitely carry your machine on with you and it will most likely fit under the seat. Yes, remove the needle and pack inside your luggage. Hugs, Barb

Here is a post back in 2011 on "Crazy Quilt Mom's" blog (Fabulous Blog) in August of 2011...be sure to read all the comments too. A lot has changed since then I would call the airline your flying and ask them for sure and you won't be surprised when you get there. Happy flying with your sewing machine! http://crazymomquilts.blogspot.com/2...g-machine.html

Good information on that blog, thanks Paula! I'm going to take my $89 Janome. It's that or my sister's 40 yer old machine she hasn't touched in 30 years. I think I would rather take my chances with the cheap machine that I know works! It isn't that heavy, and Ii have nice rolling cases that will fit in the overhead bins. Wish me luck! We are going to make a cushion for a window seat in her new house on the ocean.
