My Book and template have just arrived!!!!
WHO HAS BEGUN? Has anyone done a "dear Jane" quilt..
and if you have NO idea what I am talking about click here
I would love to know if anyone would like to start etc or join in with me or if you have a DEAR JANE lying around somewhere and you need motivation and encouragement to finish it would love to know!!!

More power to you Kizzie! All those little blocks give me a headache just looking at them! But you can do it, I know you can. The history is very interesting!

You have more patience that I do.. I'd love to be able to do such small work, but I'm cross-eyed now with the 12 & 8 inch blocks. Just can't see well enough to go any smaller. Keep us informed and show off your work when ya get going with this "amazing" project.
Thanks, Kizzie, for this post! I didn't realize the blocks were small. I just thought, wow, that is one giant quilt! How big are those blocks? What I love is the boarder, too. Amazing quilt! I might just get that book.

I started the Farmer's Wife quilt and vowed I would not start Dear Jane till it is done. Sorry.....too many projects to do Dear Jane at this time, but would love to watch your progress! Someday I might have more time for all my to do list!
in the link, if you scroll down it ways that DJ blocks are 4.5 square.... yikees.... but what a beauty... it's tempting... does that price include all that's needed to do all the blocks PP???? not familiar with EQ and i have NO business even thinking about another projet... but a girl can't help dreaming....LOLQuote:

Good luck Kizzie. That is more of a challenge than I can take on. I took on the Circular Bargello Quilt in October of last year and it is still where I stopped at. I hope to pick it up again here soon. The Dear Jane...um all I can say is Good Luck. Would like to see yours when you finish.
If you don't care to make 225 little blocks, here's another qulit with only 30 little blocks set within courthouse steps blocks, then framed with a border made of squares, HST, and hourglass blocks. I saw it on Simply Quilts many years ago and bought the pattern later on. I still haven't made it yet. The site has many great patterns and kits to drool over.

I started a Dear Jane quilt a few years ago but have only made a few blocks. The blocks finish at 4 1/2 inches square so you are working with 5 inch blocks before they are pieced together. One thing I did was follow an idea from the Dear Jane website and I took the book and tore each page out and placed it in a plastic sleeve that is 3 hole punched and put them in a binder. After each block was made I put it in the sleeve where each block is in the book. Also I copied the Diagram of blocks page and as I did a block I would highlight the block when finished. I have the Dear Jane software and love it. You can make the block any size you want with the software. I love paper piecing and have done quite a few of the blocks with that method.
It's a beautiful quilt, but I'm not ready to tackle this challenge. Kizzie, I wish you the best with it...please keep us posted.
Good luck with this one. It would take the patience of a saint to do that, so let's just say not gonna be on my to do list. But more power to you.
Kizzie, what a beauty, I love the old fashioned quilt patterns and fabrics but this looks way beyond my skill level. Have fun and hope you find a partner!

I started a Dear Jane and lost interest in it almost immediately. I gave my blocks (about 30 or so) to the guild along with my book. Barb
Oh Bubby, you could have used those blocks you made and used them in the Grandma's Sampler quilt I gave a link to above. lol
Mama4boys: That software is on its way. I am glad you like it, and I am sure I will, too. Your idea to put them with the torn out pages of the book is a great idea. I can't think of a better way to store them until they are all done. Bubby, did your quilt guild do anything with the blocks? I agree with Dennis, you could have put them into another quilt. I admire you that you did do 30 of them!
Kizzie, I just got my Dear Jane book and templates, I am working on #1 now but I have had quite a bit of difficulty in trying to figure out the best way to piece these pieces. I could REALLY use a fellow quilter to talk me through the process and also help as a sounding board... I am all for the challenge... How far are you? Hope to hear from y'all soon.

LOL I just looked at that and it's more of a MF Dear Jane quilt pattern that you give to someone you hate or that you would like to drive to the looney bin. I will not be adding that one to my bucket list. No frickin' way...life is too short! lol

Then I thought wellllll my favourite colour scheme is red black and white - it was my wedding colour scheme too ! so I'm thinkin I will do it in that and keep for myself as a wedding anni gift to us both :)

Kizzie - have you started your 'Dear Jane'? If not, perhaps we can do it simultaneously? Like a challenge ;) - and as an incentive for both of us? If we only make one block a week, we'll be busy for at least 4 years :)

I'll give you all the emotional and quilting support you might need, but the DJ isn't for me. I think it's magnificent and yours will be a masterpiece when you finish it. I would love to have a copy of the book, however.
