I'M A LITTLE CONFUSED
I need some help understanding what we are doing with the Like/Thanks feature...is it something we should all be doing?? I don't want to seem rude, but it feels like a waste of time to me. I like/love everyone on the forum and enjoy hearing from them and writing to them and about them and I assume they know how I feel. Am I the only one who feels this is really not needed?? I fully understand that I don't have to click it if I don't want to...I'm just a little confused. It feels a little like Facebook to me and I'm NOT a Facebook fan. Someone pleeze help this old lady!! :)

Re: I'M A LITTLE CONFUSED
I click a 'like' if I appreciate that a question has been asked which I might have asked myself, or if something is funny or especially informative. However, it isn't really all that neccesary and those notifications are SO annoying! :)

Re: I'M A LITTLE CONFUSED
Jenny,
I so agree! I LOVE to get pm's from everyone and I love answering every single one I receive. I am not stingy with my time....it's just that this feature baffles me. :)

Re: I'M A LITTLE CONFUSED
Well, there have been so many times that I've wished I could "Like" something someone said, sort of like an "Amen!" in church but wasn't able to. Now I can. I do think we need to use it sparingly so it isn't overused. I am like you and like everyone and love to read what is written by others, but sometimes there is something that really resonates with me and I'm glad now that I can express it.

Re: I'M A LITTLE CONFUSED
It can be a little annoying when your notifications show you have 5 or 6 or more. The way I figure, if you like what somewhat said, comment on their post, instead of inundating people with likes or thanks.

Re: I'M A LITTLE CONFUSED
Bubby, there is a post by Kizzie - I found it and brought it to the front page - maybe that will explain it!
-
Re: I'M A LITTLE CONFUSED
Thanks, Kathy, but it was Kizzie's post that confused me..lol!!

Oh Marilyn, you are too polite. A "little annoying"? It's lot annoying. I'd like to see the option to be able to turn off notifications because it's very annoying. With the like/thanks notifications up it's easy to miss private message and picture comment notifications.
-
Re: I'M A LITTLE CONFUSED
It's all I can do to stop myself from "liking" all of your comments! I wonder if I can like my own comments...
-
Re: I'M A LITTLE CONFUSED
I don't "like" on Facebook, so why would I want to "like" on this forum? I comment if I like, I don't need to know who likes what I had to say, unless they have something to respond to my comments. So my vote is to do away with like, and especially the notifications. But I love getting private messages, so don't stop sending those!

Re: I'M A LITTLE CONFUSED
I really like the Thanks feature (please don't throw tomatoes). I'm an introvert and don't always have a reply or comment, and it gives me an option to give them "props" without having to try to come up with something that just feels unnatural to say. With that said...I do think it would be really nice to have an option to turn the notifications off if you find them annoying. :)
-
Re: I'M A LITTLE CONFUSED
I feel the same way about the notifications, and I am ambivalent about the button itself. I do like to post a comment.
-
Re: I'M A LITTLE CONFUSED
Maybe its not a great idea to lump the "like" notifications with PMs. We need a "like" tab at the top, next to notification tab.
And I like the "Thanks/Like" feature too, but now I am not sure I will use it much since it annoys folks. :(
-
Re: I'M A LITTLE CONFUSED
Ya know, I don't even see it (I see it, but choose not to look at it) maybe that is what everyone that doesn't like it needs to do, just ignore it, just because it is there doesn't mean you have to use it...
-
Re: I'M A LITTLE CONFUSED
I like to be able to tell someone I like their post but I don't like the notification part of it. I know I liked someone's post I don't need to be reminded of it. But I really would rather have a personal pm than a general "like".
-
Re: I'M A LITTLE CONFUSED
I use the "Thanks/Like" when someone really posts something that hits the point/heart strings or has created something that I really like as a creation. I don't think the poster needs to be notified - I "hit" the button!
-
Re: I'M A LITTLE CONFUSED
I sure don't care whether or not someone likes what I say or not . . . just me. I do HATE the notification at the top - but I have to go to those and then refresh to get rid of the notification. I do not like Green Eggs and Ham . . . Sam, I am!! Please take this annoying feature away . . . If someone likes what I say, well, so be it. If they don't like it . . .then why not a HATE button? Silly, Silly, Silly.
I am going to bed!! SOON. Who cares

Yeah, but you still get those notification numbers at the top and in order to get rid of them you have to go to the likes page and refresh. Annoying. But, if you are not OCD then you don't need to worry about it. My light switches all have to be in the off position before I go to bed. Me? I am definitely obsessive, compulsive, and I have many disorders. I leak when I laugh, among either things.

Re: I'M A LITTLE CONFUSED
If I like a post I will comment and if I disagree with it I may also comment. Don't need no stinkin'like button!!!!

Re: I'M A LITTLE CONFUSED
Guess I need to throw my 2 cents worth in...I don't like the "Post Thanks/Like" thingy at all...If I like something I see I'd rather come right out and tell the person who posted it. I think thats much better then just clicking on the "Post Thanks/Like" thingy. And as for the notifications I REALLY DISLIKE them when they're just telling me someone "Post Thanks or Likes" something I've made or said. This is irratating and maybe I just need to go to bed too because I can't seem to get this NIGHT sleeping thingy down yet...I know...I know...I'm CRANKY...I'm sorry...:icon_rolleyes:

Re: I'M A LITTLE CONFUSED
Me too! I guess I am just to old for all this new stuff.
-
Re: I'M A LITTLE CONFUSED
I find that I would rather tell someone I like something instead of using the like button. It feels like we lose the personal touch by using it.
-
Re: I'M A LITTLE CONFUSED
Okay......so it's not just me! I agree 100% with Brook. I do feel that with using the "like button" we are losing some of the personal touch. I guess I enjoy getting/sending a PM, visitor message, post or comment to/from someone. We all appreciate the encouragement, thanks, prayers and applause that we get from one another. When you need a good laugh from reading funny comments of someone's post.......well, the like notification/button just doesn't seem to do the job! They need to go back to the notification of a PM, visitor message or comment on someone's album and do away with "like/thanks". So glad it's not just me....I thought I was missing something! :)

Re: I'M A LITTLE CONFUSED
Ha.. this is funny... I was just about to post a ? about all this... so here's my take
1... If you like (LOVE) something... make a post or send a pm... that's very nice of you!!!
2... If you like giving a little "thumbs up of appreciation".. or "quickie" thanks... use the button...
but...
3.... For heavens sakes tell me HOW TO CONTROL that long list of "likes/thanks" that is growing.... i have this thing about too much stuff on my computer and worry it's gonna burst!!! :) Does anyone know...I know how to control pm's,, that's out of control as it is...
I'm the girl that still cannot understand WHERE all the stuff goes when i EMPTY TRASH... there should be a slot with a little chip that can come out and we can "wipe it down" with alcohol and get rid of stuff for good!!!!!:)

Re: I'M A LITTLE CONFUSED
If you dont like it dont use it .... I like the idea of it but I dont like all of the notifications.
-
Re: I'M A LITTLE CONFUSED
Obviously those of us who don't care for the Like button won't use it...it's just the notification thing that's annoying.
-
Re: I'M A LITTLE CONFUSED
I have to agree with the majority, I'm not a big fan of the thanks button. It's too impersonal. When I see a beautiful quilt, I don't just want to let the person know that I like it, I enjoy letting them know WHY I like it. It's not much quicker than using this Quick Reply box and typing "Beautiful" or "I love it" when you don't know what else to say.... Just my two cents...
And Bernice darling, you're not "too old" because I'm only 26 (and an IT professional) and I don't like it either lol

Re: I'M A LITTLE CONFUSED
Hi Ladies....
I'm so sorry for all this comotion regarding the Like button - I dont use it to tell people I like their quilt - I would rather comment of course!
the only reason I like it is to bookmark the ones I see and then I can go back and see it again - I cant always sit down and read everyones comments on peoples quilts which I love doing so if I see a quilt and go wow thats awesome I click like so that later on I can go back and look at what I have bookmarked.
I too dont like the notifications - on my other forums we dont get them so I think its controlled int he Admin Control Panel - So I have messaged Al and explained the situation of all your feelings and asked him if he would kindly see if there is a setting to remove the Notifications - not the like/thanks button itself.
People use the thanks button for different reasons - I didnt expect that everytime I "liked/thanked/bookmarked" something that that user would THEN get a notification for that too - so I'm sorry! :( As far as I was aware on a different forum to this the only notification they get is if someone looks under their post and see's who has "liked/thanked/bookmarked" them.
I'm so sorry again for all the confusion I just thought it was a good idea and that it may come useful - I guess I was wrong
here is hoping Al is able to turn those notifications off - I seen this feature on the actual script he is using "Notifications can be disabled on a per-button basis" so fingers crossed!

I'm with you, I like the Thanks feature. The "like" not so much because I like to comment on the photos or posts that I like. But would be nice to have an option to turn off the notices.

Re: I'M A LITTLE CONFUSED
Options... that's the ticket... something for everyone!!!!!! Super idea!!:)

Re: I'M A LITTLE CONFUSED
Sheesh, where have I been i didnt even know we had it, as for me, if i see something I like, I write about it....
-
Re: I'M A LITTLE CONFUSED
I totally understand everyone I really do
if you click here
THANKS STATISTICS
you will see that I have received the most THANKS (45) so I understand how frustrating the Notifications are - and i'm totally agreeing with everyone - I never ever had notifications on previous forums I have been on so i'm positive its a feature that can be turned off.
So glad to hear and I have had some lovely PM's too that the frustration isnt at me - I thought I might have gone against the rule (if its not broken dont fix it) and ruined it for people - I really hope Al can work magic :)
