I know this has been asked before but I need all opinions, good or bad. I'm having trouble using Coats and Clark thread on my Janome Horizon 7700 because of the little cut out notches on the thread spool catching the thread as its unwinding. I am considering purchasing thread from Connecting Threads. Please tell me all the pros and cons on this thread before I make a sizable investment. I appreciate all your comments. Are you sure you have it on your machine correctly, because i have never had that problem, because the notch is going the opposite way.
Yes, I actually talked to my Janome Dealer today. Not only does the C&C thread have the cut out Notches on their spools but the edges are rough too which will also sometimes catch the thread. I've actually had my spools on both ways and it still happens sometimes.
I use Connecting Threads thread for almost everything. I don't have any issues with it. Some people seem to have fuzz issues with it, but I don't get any more fuzz from it than other thread.
I use Coats and Clark thread almost exclusively. I don't have any old spools, most have been bought in the last year or so. None of my spools have that little notch in them. Mine have the top that pops up that you wrap your thread around and then close it back up to keep it from unraveling. But in answer to your question about Connecting Threads - I personally haven't used them but have heard lots of Kudos from other quilters.

I discovered that they did by accident. That is what I use.
Both my Janome Memory Craft 6500 and my Elna 740 both refuse to sew nice with Coats and Clark thread...I can use it in the bobbin but not in the top....I have been using Superior So Fine #50 and that works very well in my machines without a lot of fuzz....hope this helps! :)
I have a spool cap on my Janome, 2 in fact a small and a large - don't all machines have a spool cap?
Well I'll be! I have 1 C&C spool like that and did not know they pop up either - just thought it was a narrow slit that you put the thread end to hold it when storing. Got it either at Wal-Mart or JoAnn's.
I get them at Joann's or Hancock Fabrics. I haven't seen the ones with the slit in them for a few years now.Quote:

I have gotten thread from Connecting threads, both the cotton and the poly on a big spool. The cotton I got is good for regular sewing, but my machine didn't like it for FMQ, so if I do that I use the poly thread. There is no slit to get caught in.
I think it all depends on what your machine likes. I'm pretty sure CT has a return policy so you could try one and see if you like it and if not return it.
All my Janome Machines sew ok with Coats and Clarks. I use the large thread disk holder( circular disk, there are two sizes that come with the machine), which is bigger than the thread spool, and the thread feeds off just fine. I have a 7700, too. Just make sure the disk is pushed up very snugly to the spool. Did you get a thread stand with your machine? If you did, you can use the cone threads easily.
Maybe because I buy the CC Dual Duty which is a poly covered poly. That's strange that they have different spools for different areas of the country. hum....Quote:

I don't even bother putting those older spools horizontal on the thread holder anymore, they do have rough edges that catch and make me crazy! Doesn't your machine also have a vertical spool holder?Quote:

Instead of throwing out all of your thread, take a paring knife and trim off the notch and any of the other rough bits. It works well enough that way.
The sewing places around here changed out the C&C spools a few years ago. The pop-top spools are a nice design features, but I did have one top come completely off. They aren't like the Gutterman threads where you just stick the core back in if it pops out.
Thanks everyone...as with a lot of people here...I didn't know that the ends of the cones popped up either but all my C&C thread I purchase from Walmart and most of is new spools with no pop up ends, don't know why. I actually got all mine out too and checked...lol...
I do think I'll order a few spools from Connecting Threads just to try them out. They've got such beautiful colors!

Perhaps putting the C&C thread on a thread stand might help. I've never used thread from Connecting Threads either, but have heard nothing but good things bout it.
CT,, thread is great... Superior even better....I don't go in for a lot of colors... just get big spools of basic.. and i LOVE using a threadstand... all the time....
LOL, I didn't know the top popped up either..
On my old Pfaff, they have several size discs that hold the thread spool on the spindle......so I use the larger disc and the thread has to go over the disc and not near the edge of spool.....hope that makes sense.
I have a Janome and Coats & Clarks does the same thing on it. :( I have ordered thread from Connecting Threads many times and have had no problem with it. I wait until it goes on sale. As Barbara already stated, having only just the basic colors works many times....especially the creams or off whites, but their other color choices are real pretty. (they remind me of sherbert, candy....anything delicious!)
