Instead of throwing out all of your thread, take a paring knife and trim off the notch and any of the other rough bits. It works well enough that way.
The sewing places around here changed out the C&C spools a few years ago. The pop-top spools are a nice design features, but I did have one top come completely off. They aren't like the Gutterman threads where you just stick the core back in if it pops out.
Thanks everyone...as with a lot of people here...I didn't know that the ends of the cones popped up either but all my C&C thread I purchase from Walmart and most of is new spools with no pop up ends, don't know why. I actually got all mine out too and checked...lol...
I do think I'll order a few spools from Connecting Threads just to try them out. They've got such beautiful colors!

If you see this, Gutermann has a box of 100 spools of thread all arranged according to color and number in a very heavy duty case. I paid $69 for it at Joanns. That $.69 a spool( duh, Jean). It is so nice to go over to the case and pick out your color. And with the numbers next to the thread, you can just find replacement spools easily whn you use up a spool. They are not big spools, more for small projects than quilting a whole quilt

They don't have a large selection, just the basic colors. Probably some they've had in stock for the last 20 years which is probably why they don't have the pop up thingy on them. Our new Walmart Supercenter is supposed to open the middle of August, hope they have more of a selection.

I have used both CC and CT. I love the colors I got from CT and they have some great sales. They seem to have a little less fuzz than CC, but I still had to clean out my machine in the middle of a quilting project.
Perhaps putting the C&C thread on a thread stand might help. I've never used thread from Connecting Threads either, but have heard nothing but good things bout it.
