TGIF!!!!!!
Good Morning Everyone!!

I think I'm the first one awake this morning and thought I would begin our daily thread. That sounds a lot like daily bread, and that's sort of what our group is about! Going a day without the forum feels a lot like starving!!
It's going to be another scorcher here today with temps in the 100's. It hit 107 degrees yesterday. Aren't the fires in the northwest and Colorado terrible? My daughter lives south of Albuquerque and the fire is in northern New Mexico. It makes this Mom nervous! My grandkids are in California and they are having problems of their own there!
July 4th is almost on us. I guess this launches the official time to begin making our quilted holiday items...Christmas in July and all that! Even my little local fabric shop got in their Christmas and Halloween prints!! It wouldn't hurt me to sew a few holiday table runners. I hope M* comes out with a new runner for Christmas this year....Hint, Hint Jenny!!
We have nothing fun planned for this weekend. We will work at our apartments all day tomorrow and recoup on Sunday. DH will have Wednesday off next week for the 4th. What are your plans for the weekend and for the 4th? As dry as everything is around here I hope there are no fires set off by fireworks. Fireworks are a big deal around here.
I wish you all a terrific Friday! I will be cleaning house and catching up with the laundry...maybe I'll get to make my M* flags this afternoon!!
Hugs All Around, Barb

Re: TGIF!!!!!!
Hi Barb, I'm not far behind you on the wake up part of the day, only because after 4 hours of swimming with the grandkids yesterday, this grandma was toast, and the evening was spent lolling around and snoozing off and on, so I think I'm caught up on my sleep. Couldn't even muster up the strength to get down to work on a quilt I was messing with earlier in the week.
Love the 4th, but that means the tipping point of a teacher's summer toward next semester, instead of away from last semester, and the time sure does seem to fly by when we are off!
Must clean something of this very dusty, cluttered house, because I may have to do something this weekend that I haven't done for a very long time--entertain, which also means COOK! My brother's birthday is Saturday, and we usually do something to celebrate it. I layed out to my girls yesterday, "Want to do something for Rich's birthday?" and nobody bit on that, including the one with the patio, great grill and lovely swimming pool, so I guess it will be up to me to get things going and invite them over here. I'd rather be quilting, but cleaning does have to be done at some point in time.
Have a great, cool day. If I spend it in the basement, I won't even know how hot it is outside. Hope every one else has a place to hide out from the searing temps!

Re: TGIF!!!!!!
Our celebration day here is Australia Day on 26th January so I have ages to make my Aussie flags. Our Friday is nearly over and I'm off to put the electric blanket on. We're in the middle of one of our coldest, wettest Winters for many years and its pretty chilly up here in the hills. Thank goodness we had gas heating put in last week!
Clive has a Men's Breakfast early tomorrow and I plan to stay in bed for an extra hour or so and catch up with my reading. Hope to make some headway with the lap quilt I started yesterday. Couldn't do much today and my daughter and granddaughters popped round to make some birthday cards this afternoon and I've been working in our church cafe from 9.00 till 2.00.
Got the results from my scans and blood tests and relieved to find its nothing life threatening - but I do have numerous gall stones and will need to modify my diet if I want to avoid surgery.

Re: TGIF!!!!!!
Well I've been up since about 3 AM. Just another one of those nights. Can't wait for this workday to be over because then my vacation starts. We will be spending the week at camp on the lake. YAY! I had hoped to do a bunch of sewing but one project is a gift for my DS's Bday which is July 8th and he's coming to camp for this week end. Then we have guests for Tues. and Wed. and again the following weekend. I have to pick up all my sewing stuff when guests come. Friday we have to come home for the day as both DH and I have PT appointments. That only leaves Mon. and Thurs. for sewing - heaven forbid DH and I want to go do something together. At least this will get our obligated invites over for the summer. Don't get me wrong, it will be fun with our guests. We have Lake Carmi Days which is a series of fun events throughout the week. My fave is the fireworks over the lake on the 3rd. Love fireworks! We are hosting our street block party on the 14th. At least that is potluck. The summer at camp seems so short; especially since we rent it out for August - got to pay for it somehow.
Hope everyone has a fun and safe holiday. I'll be missing you since we don't have Internet or phone at camp. Going to have to find some wifi with my iPad mid week so I don't have withdrawals.
Hugs,
Nancy
I got a sewing machine for my husband. Good trade, huh!?!

Re: TGIF!!!!!!
Good morning everyone. It will be a scorcher here today as well. Talked to hubby last night and they are on the last legs of their journey across the country. They should be home tomorrow. I am looking foward to spending time with my son. I just wish DIL had come too.
I am off to Kingston today to watch my youngest graduate. I am not sure is he is 1st or 2nd overall and we find that out this afternoon. I better bring kleenex because I know I will cry either way. I am such a softie.
I did go to an auction sale last night and I did not stay very long. There were a couple of sewing machines that I fancied, BUT I already have 5. Did I really need another one? And where the heck would I put it.
This weekend is Canada Day weekend. We will just enjoy the celebrations.
To all of you out there, have a safe and wonderful weekend.
Blessed are the children of the piecemakers for they shall inherit the quilts!

Re: TGIF!!!!!!
Good morning! It's going to be another scorcher, over 100, here today. We're having "power flickers" where the electricity goes off just long enough to lose the Dish signal and have to reset the clock on the microwave. It's probably due to so many air conditioners and fans running.
So glad this week at work is winding down...It's been tense the past couple of days due to a coworker's inappropriate behavior. Poor thing, she didn't accomplish anything but make herself look bad. Maybe the tensions will be eased after the weekend.
Prayers for all those needing them. Depending on your part of the world, stay cool, or stay warm, and be safe!

Re: TGIF!!!!!!
Good morning, Quilty Friends! Can't believe next week is the 4th already! The heat is coming. The midwest sure is being hit....and those wildfires further west. So awful. Do we have members struggling out there? Prayers to them.
Glad all went well with your tests, Jane. Phew.....
Happy Canada Day, Monique. Jean, yea...cleaning has to be done sometime. It's hard work dusting down the sewing machine. hehe Have a great time at camp, Nancy. You are due for some relaxing. Barb, hope the work goes smoothly at the apts....thanks for the square instructions, just what I needed!
I'm going to shut down the windows and hopefully keep most of the heat out today. Must do some cleaning, too, for company coming in a week or so. Yea to the company, yuck to cleaning.
Have a great weekend.
Cynthia

Re: TGIF!!!!!!
Yep, that. HOT. Nasty business it is, and at work I just can't motivate and get things done because the temps are so high and humid. Inside. I really pity and fear for those who work outside this weekend.
I posted a photo the other day of Layla. It is currently tied for first place in the challenge I entered. Tied with a PUPPY!!! lol.... Tie breaker announced tomorrow...
And WHO said Holiday quilting? Oh, CR@P we are on the downside of the year starting Sunday!!!! YIKES!!!!!!!
Stay cool everyone. Carry water everywhere you go, and pace yourselves!!!!

Re: TGIF!!!!!!
Good Morning All,
I have been up a while but was reading the news sites first. Shame on me!!!!!!
I got my binding made yesterday for my Texas wall-hanging and hope to get it sewn on today. I watched Jenny's tutorial on mitered binding last night and will watch it once more before I jump in to sew. I have never tried the mitered corners before. First time for everything.
We reached 110* yesterday. Am not looking forward to the heat today either. I am sure the dryness we are having is going to put a damper on the fireworks this weekend. I don't think they will be putting on too many displays with the risk of fire so high. But I hope everyone has a great weekend anyway.
Hugs and prayers.
Stay cool.
Donna
