Used Color Catchers for the first time
Attachment 23568Attachment 23569
Wow, I am loving Color Catchers! I was worried about the dark brown fabric that I used for the back and part of the border. I didn't prewash as it was part of a quilt with pre-cuts. I don't really know how to do that-since you can't prewash pre-cuts, does that mean I shouldn't prewash the other fabric (that way it all sort of shrinks at the same rate).
The color catchers came out all dark and the quilt came out of the dryer great! It was worth the side trip to a local store when I drove down to NY.
Re: Used Color Catchers for the first time
Very cute quilt and good advice.
Re: Used Color Catchers for the first time
Love this quilt.... especially the blocks on the back.... i love using up all i have for one project... instead of letting things pile up and create MORE SCRAPS....Good info about the color catchers.... thanks for sharing...
Re: Used Color Catchers for the first time
First of all....Love love LOVE this quilt! The back is awesome! I really need to try this pattern. Secondly, I've also used the color catchers. My daughter thinks it's a gimmick, I am a TRUE believer since I've had the same thing happen - color catcher comes out with dark dye and the quilt is fine. PHEW! I don't have an answer for your prewash question (sorry), but really wanted to love on your quilt some! Nice job!
Re: Used Color Catchers for the first time
Your quilt is beautiful!!!!
I love the color catchers also...I heard about them here on the forum a while back...I think they are great!
Re: Used Color Catchers for the first time
Very beautiful quilt. I will be buying some color catchers the next trip to the store. I really need to use them when I wash my Texas wall hanging with it's red, white and blue fabric.
Re: Used Color Catchers for the first time
Fabulours quilt, and I love color catchers also! They sure do give you peace of mind, don't they?
Re: Used Color Catchers for the first time
Love your quilt and color catchers too. Very nice colors.
Re: Used Color Catchers for the first time
River mom, I love your quilt! What a great idea to put dark brown on the back. Unfortunately can't find color catchers where i live in canada but managed to grab some in the US.. I was able to find here a small bottle of a clear liquid called "retayne " " which my locsl quilt shop sells and they say works... Has anyone ever used it? Happy Thursday everyone!
Re: Used Color Catchers for the first time
Very nice quilt! I haven't tried the Color Catchers yet but will have to try them on a quilt with dark colors. Thanks for the info.
Re: Used Color Catchers for the first time
Beautiful quilt. The colors go together great.
Re: Used Color Catchers for the first time
Another option for preventing any bleeding from dyes is RETAYNE. Add that to your wash and you should be safe.
Should you have some bleeding after you wash a quilt, then you would use SYNTHROPOL with a few colour catchers for added power.
Re: Used Color Catchers for the first time
I NEVER wash quilts for first time without color catchers. They have saved many a quilt that would otherwise have been ruined. Oh yes, I do love your quilt. The colors are very eye appealing.
Re: Used Color Catchers for the first time
Your quilt looks great! I need to look for color catchers next time I'm at Walmart.
Re: Used Color Catchers for the first time
Nice quilt...I just used color catchers on a black, dark blue, light blue quilt. Although I had prewashed all the fabric, the color catcher came out a nice shade of gray. I have a box to use for quilts..I would hate to get to the final stage of quilting and have all the hard work destroyed just by washing. I am under the assumption that you don't have to use them each time you wash the quilt, right?
Re: Used Color Catchers for the first time
I love the color catchers and your quilt! I used them for a summer in the park quilt with a white background. The other colors were so bright I didn't want to take any chances that they would bleed on the white. Thankfully ...the color catchers did their job well. No bleeding on the white. We love color catchers.....:D
Re: Used Color Catchers for the first time
Love your quilt! I have never used color catchers in my 20+ years of quilting, but am giving some thought to hunting them down. I do tend to prewash everything which should take care of any bleeding. But now that I'm starting to use some precuts, those color catchers would be a good idea.
