Hello again, I'm needing to buy new scissors...a regular size pair and a small pair. Mine are wearing out. I want something light weight. Does anyone have a favorite kind that they would recommend? Thanks for your help.

I don't know about big scissors, because I have a pair I love that is a "no name" but is fabulous. I purchased it at a pattern making event about 5 years ago, and it is still the most wonderful pair I've ever owned. As far as little scissors, I love the Gingher embroidery scissors with the VERY POINTY ends. They cost around $25, you can get the cost down if you use a coupon. I purchase a pair about every 2 years, just to treat myself. I use these to rip, rip, rip, don't like using seam rippers except in certain cases.
I'm like Jean - I'm a Gingher lover. Nothing better in my book. However, I probably have about 30 pair of scissors all around the house - seem to have a weakness for anything . . . including sharp pointy objects.
I buy Gingher nippers. I bought my first pair when I worked for Levi Strauss. Not sure what ever happened to them.
My scissors are a pair of higher end Fiskars. They fit my hand well (large hands.)
Just don't run with them http://smileys.on-my-web.com/reposit...ers/no-218.gif
I have a pair of Singer scissors that I really like. I've been looking at the Ginghers - so I'll probably get a pair of those too.
I have two pairs of Singer scizzors, large and medium that are about 35 years old and I recently had them sharpened and what fabulous sizzors they are.

I got a set at Hancocks not too long ago but the the big ones are too heavy for my liking so when I need to use a full size I find myself reaching for the cheap pair I got at Wal-Mart - lightweight and sharp!
Good one Shirley!
My favorites are a pair of Westcott titanium. Light weight, sharp and they fit my little hands well. Nothing gets cut with them but fabric.
Uuummhhh...Sandy, I had to laugh when I saw your response........add an evil laugh with the "sharp pointy object" remark and you have yourself a scary moment!!
Thanks to all for the info. That should help me narrow down the choices. The scissors will be on sale for 40 percent off at Hancock's starting tomorrow. Guess I'd better get some!
I never got to go to the safety meeting at work, so I ALWAYS run with scissors!!!

Pam, you're so funny! I have often looked longingly at the expensive scissors at the fabric shops, but always had a decision to make - buy them or put food on the table that week, or now buy more fabric. I just picked up a cheap pair of scissors, but designated them for fabric only. The unknown named ones I use work fabulously. I guess it is a chance you take buying cheaper ones, and the more expensive ones are a better guarantee.
I have a pair of Fiskars that I bought maybe 15 years ago. It's worked really well for me and is light weight. I have a DH who sharpens all y scissors (and knives) for me, so they are never dull.
When I took the Sewing Studio Craftsy course she (instructor Diana) highly recommended the Cadillac of scissors, Gingher (specifically 8" dress shears). I couldn't find any here in my area of Canada so I ended up buying a pair of Singers ($40). They felt good in my hand and cut very nicely (but I still wanted Ginghers!). My old, old pair was made by Henckels but they just weren't good enough for tight seam trimming on my pillow projects. I have the added pain of having to find lefty versions of all my scissors! On my next trip to the States I will try to find some Ginghers!
I swear by Gingher scissors. You can buy them at www.Hancocks-Paducah.com. Their prices on their Ginghers are very good. Barb
I just use Fiskars. Cheap, sharp, lightweight, easy to replace if needed.
Bubby, thanks for the Hancock link. I haven't been to their site or store in a long time. Those scissors don't look that expensive, but I don't think they are of the quality that the really expensive ones are, or are they? So far, my cheap scissors are serving me well.
My absolute favorites are the gold handled ginghers i keep tucked away. NO one touches those but me. I do have some nice Fiskars in various styles that I like but my first choice is the Ginghers. i have the little snips in my smocking box(DH bought them for me nearly 30 yrs. ago) and a pair of Gingher emb. scissors.
Ginghers are absolutely top drawer!! I have the shears, nippers, applique (pelican blade), embroidery scissors, etc and they all awesome. I keep a pair of the lightweight scissors for paper cutting and other miscellaneous chores. I have scissors that cost more, but the Ginghers are the ones I use year after year. :)
I have Fiskars scissors, mainly because there are "some" in this house who don't understand you can't use them for paper so I stay cheap, but I have a Gingher rotary cutter that I LOVE! DH insisted on buying it last time we were in JoAnn's and I am so impressed! The blades are downright affordable too, so that's a bonus!
I GOT MY GINGHERS! Saga here....

I use nothing but Gingher scissors for cutting fabric and have them in every size. I also have a Gingher rotary cutter that is fabulous, but Gingher blades are expensive, and use Gingher appliqué (duck bill) scissors for trimming around appliqués. I bought most of them with 50% coupons at Joann's. Hubby collects scissors so he's always looking for a good buy on Ginghers. Mine are used a lot, but have not needed sharpening.
