    Default Rotary Cutters

Has anyone experienced this problem--I have two 60 mm rotary cutters, and I recently bought a replacement blade. Name brand, same brand as the cutter handle. I have to hold the 'lock' down because the blade is a fraction smaller than the original. The blade extends, but it won't cut unless I hold the little handle thingie down. I don't mind, but it is a hassle. Anyone else had this happen??????

I haven't had that problem but one of my cutters when I retract the blade I have to push the handle back down....annoying.

I think I'm going to invest in a better cutter....I got these when I first started quilting because I didn't even know if I'd like doing it. Maybe I'll save all the stuff I'm replacing, that is still useable and in good working condition and donate it, if I can find an organization that wants it.

i recently replaced my 60mm blade(fiskars) and it works OK

Did something get broken when you changed blades??
my 45mm no longer locks open. i have to hold the "button" down while cutting. I think something snapped when I predded down too hard trying to cut too many layers.

Shirley I bet you will find some place to donate the stuff to. I bet you could also find some newbies that would be interested. I know myself I am only able to buy a little at a time. Right now my next purchase will be a larger cutting board. I am working with the small 6 x what ever that came with the rotary cutter that was bought at Wal-Mart. I am slowly building up my tools and fabric. But it is all good.

I don't have a 60mm blade cutter, but on one of my 45mm ones, it has a little spring thing that goes under the nut. I dropped it, couldn't find it, and thought I could live without it, but that is what kept the blade cover up. I had to look and look to find the spring on the floor, and I am back in business with that cutter. Why do you have a 60mm? I have seen where the small cutters (don't know the mm) are what you need to cut curves, but I haven't seen anything on the 60mm.

The smaller rotary cutters do work better for cutting curves. You can't cut as many layers but the smaller (28mm or 18mm) really hug your template and make perfect curves.

I have the 60 mm cutter because I'm one of those 'gotta have it' girls. You do not want to know how much scrapbooking stuff I have--and I no longer scrapbook. Anyway, no, I didn't break anything when I changed the blade. It's a Fiskars, and I have the same thing in 45 mm. Actually, I have two in each size. (Sorry--gotta have it.) Anyway (again), the 45 mm ones--one of them had a little tab thing that you mashed to close the blade. That broke off after many years of use. I had to poke something in the hole to make the blade close. The other one just stopped staying open. It worked one day and didn't work the next. I have replaced them with one I bought at Tuesday Morning.

Lonna, watch Tuesday Morning (if you have one). I bought a large cutting mat there a few years ago at a deep discount. If we were close, I would gladly let you come 'shop' at my house.

I have a couple of rotary cutters in all sizes and brands. Never know which blades are going to be on sale! I got them all for discounted prices. I use my 60mm the most when I am cutting anything. I just like it better!

Thanks Becki I did go to Tuesday Morning today after seeing where someone bought some fabric there. I would have never thought to go there. Our Tuesday Morning sits in the back corner of a shopping center and I never think about them. I did pick up some Fat Quarters today. I will have to keep checking to see what comes in there.

Where did you buy the replacement blades? Maybe they can help?
