Sooo, this is why we always buy too much fabric!
Chemical Warning
A recent study indicated that fabric gives off certain Pheromones that actually
hypnotize women and cause them to purchase unreasonable amounts. When
stored in large quantities in enclosed spaces, the Pheromones (in the fabric) causes memory loss and induces the nesting syndrome (similar to the one squirrels have before the onset of winter i.e. storing food). Therefore perpetuating their species and not having a population loss due to their kind being cut into pieces and mixed with others.
Sound tests have also revealed that these fabrics emit a very high pitched sound, heard only by a select few, a breed of women know as quilters. When played backwards on an LP, the sounds are heard as chants, buy me, cut me and sew me. In order to overcome the so called feeding frenzy effect that these fabrics cause, one must wear a face mask when entering a storage facility and use ear plugs to avoid being pulled into their grip. One must laugh, however, at the sight of customers in a quilt fabric store, with WWII army gas masks and headphones!
Studies have also indicated that aliens have inhabited the earth, helping to spread the effects that these fabrics have on the human population. They are called QUILT FABRIC STORE CLERKS. It's also been experienced that these same Pheromones cause a pathological need to hide these fabric purchases when taken home (or at least blend them into the existing stash), and when asked by significant other if the fabric is new, the reply is I've had it for awhile.
It is NOT our fault!!!!!

Re: Sooo, this is why we always buy too much fabric!
Truer words have never been spoken! If there is one benefit to widowhood, it is that I don't have to hide my purchases from anybody. But in the past, I used all those tricks mentioned!

Re: Sooo, this is why we always buy too much fabric!
Ah ha!! My first chuckle of the day. I knew there had to be a reason why I cannot just walk away from it, and have the constant need to be making something from it. My long sought question has finally been answered. Thanks for the laugh. :)

Too funny. Yes, Marilyn you are especially susceptible to the lure of fabric. I know this by the simply fact that you at least 4-5 plastic tubs FULL of fabric.

I've got her beat, because my stash is measured in CLOSETS FULL OF TUBS- at 4 with overflow. Got to weed some of that out! But, I have to admit, I never bought 81 yards of fabric in one day, she's got me beat on that one! Well, maybe when I was buying for my 300 costumes for "The Producers" play a couple of years ago.

Re: Sooo, this is why we always buy too much fabric!
How do you explain people like me who buys a lot of fabric on line? Does my PC have smell-oh-vision? I agree, though, once it is home, it does affect me the way you describe.

And that is the reason she only thinks I have four. I actually have 8, and the 81 yds is still not put away, lol. And that isn't even counting what I have stacked on the table, and on the spare bed. It really is a sickness with me.

No not a "Cult" thing it is a "Cut" out thing!! LOL
"More Blocks, More Blocks" cut out to sew!!!
To make one big block the size of a: Table runner, wallhanging, throw, twin, full, queen, king!!!
All of those blocks take a lot of Fabric!!!!!!
Sew no it isn't our fault, it is the requirments of the object we are making it for!!!! LOL
OK so I am crazy!! So I will go now and play in my room!! My "sewing room" that is...they haven't padded it yet!!!
They can't find the walls cuz of all the fabric and stuff I have!!!! LOL

I've been stashing for a VERY LONG TIME. And I moved 6 years ago, and gave away scads of stuff then.

Re: Sooo, this is why we always buy too much fabric!
Remember, quilters, fabric is our palette. If we painted, we could get the right look by mixing a small amount of paint. Quilters need someone else to mix the colors for us, but we must shop to acquire just the right look.
That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!
