Re: FRIXION Pens
Oh my goodness. To heck with the pens, lovin the smile on your little goober. What a doll.

Re: FRIXION Pens
So far I have used the pens with success, however, there have been posts here from quilters who did not have very good luck using them on darker colors. I hope they will post here and give you more information. :)

Re: FRIXION Pens
I can see how they would be kind of useless on darker fabric, but on the lighter stuff they are wonderful!
-
Re: FRIXION Pens
When I use them I make sure I wash the quilt, when I'm finished, because they can leave white marks on dark fabric. I also read if the fabric they are used on gets cold (don't know how cold) that the marks can come back, they were tested in a freezer, so that would be fairly cold.

Re: FRIXION Pens
I love your goober smile. I call my Emily "Goober Berry".

Re: FRIXION Pens
I love my pens and so far haven't had any trouble with them!
-
Re: FRIXION Pens
I love my pens also and have found that sometimes the red or orange work on darker fabrics. If not, I just use a white fabric pencil :-).

Re: FRIXION Pens
Handsome little Goober Face!!!!

Re: FRIXION Pens
Love the little Goober....when does that next little pea arrive? Oh......yeah....love these pens, too!

Re: FRIXION Pens
Next baby pea is in July. I'm due on the 31st but if I make it to the 12th they will induce me.

Re: FRIXION Pens
I'm afraid to try these pens. I did a lot of googling and found a few articles about them so I think I'll stick to my pencils and chalk for now. Here is the test I saw and I'm not sure if I want my hard work ruined but everyone has their own opinions. I'll wait until they develop a little more before I jump in.

Re: FRIXION Pens
I actually just ordered one of these pens and I'm excited to try it :) I did a lot of cross-stitch years ago and used washable markers and even disappearing markers with great success, I just found that they dried out too quickly and were hard to see on a lot of fabrics (other than the standard cross-stitch white). I plan on testing the pen on each fabric though, maybe on some scraps or selvage to make sure that there are no ill-effects.
There are up sides and down sides to every method, I find it's best to do a little patch test every time I try a different fabric. And from what I've read, do NOT use these pens on batiks, they apparently hate each other...

Re: FRIXION Pens
I love the pens and use them all the time, no matter what color the fabric is. Sure, it is a bit harder to see on darks, but you can see it. I mark the lighter patch side, and there ususally is one. I did do one thing wrong with the pen. I forgot they disappear with heat and used them to outline an applique I was going to fuse down. So, I fused it first on the wrong side of the fabric, lifted the iron, and the pattern I had traced was gone. I got a good laugh at that, and started over. I don't think you have to worry about it being seen in your quilt as you are marking either cutting or sewing lines that wouldn't show if you used a real pencil.

Re: FRIXION Pens
I have also used these pens with great success, some of my quilting friends said they had used them and the lines had not gone completely, when I used the iron on one my friend was complaining about, the line left disappeared, I think she was not using a warm enough iron, hers was set on cool, mine on moderate shifted every last bit of the marking.

Re: FRIXION Pens
I like these pens. Only complaint I have is that they run out of ink too soon.
-
Re: FRIXION Pens
I haven't tried the pens yet, but DH is planning on giving me a shopping spree when we buy my new sewing machine, so I will be getting a few supplies also.
Gorgeous Goober!!!!!! Love that smile.

Re: FRIXION Pens
I use these pens on about every quilt and have never had a problem with them. One quilt stays in our motor home that is parked beside our home and unheated all winter, and we live in the mountains in Colorado where it gets really cold. The ink hasn't re-appeared on that quilt either. I've read lots of info on the pens, and don't know why the ink appears on some fabric and not on others when the temp is cold.

Re: FRIXION Pens
I was told that the Frixion pens would ghost back if it hits around 20 degrees, now thats cold.
Love the Goober smile, reminds me of my grand kids.

Re: FRIXION Pens
We are up in Northern Alberta and when it hit's -40 I plan on going outside and testing these pens!
-
Re: FRIXION Pens
I tested the pens too, and after removing the marks with heat, then rinsing and putting the fabric in the freezer, no ink reappeared.
I have absolutely NO intentions EVER to have my house get to below freezing temperatures inside for an extended amount of time, and if it does, I will clearly have a profound problem with my heating system and lines reappearing on my quilt will be the least of my worries!
Also, in the linked experiment, it was only the lines that were starched AFTER they were drawn that re-appeared after washing and freezing. So apparently starch sets the ink. But I would not use this pen first, then starch, because don't you have to press starched fabric, which would effectively remove all the lines you just drew? Maybe it's because I only make quilts for use, not shows or display, but I can not see myself ever starching my quilt top once it's completed, sandwiched, and being quilted.
I also can never forsee a situation where my unwashed quilts will be spending extended amounts of time in freezing temperatures.
Maybe those who live in really cold climates that do store their unwashed quilts outside in the winter would want to reconsider using these pens.

Re: FRIXION Pens
Cathryn, I'm in total agreement with you. I, too, make quilts only for use and would not starch and iron them after ithey're completed. I guess I'm a risk taker, but I can't imagine any situation where my home would get below freezing. Even if the power went out in the coldest part of winter, we'd use the fireplace.

Re: FRIXION Pens
I'm not so much worried about my home getting below freezing, I'm more worried about sending something in the mail. DH's parents live in Alberta, so we send them things quite frequently. In the middle of winter those postal trucks can get quite cold!! But the good news is that washing seems to remove them completely so even the coldest postal truck can't bring them back :)

Re: FRIXION Pens
I thought that the ink only reappeared in cold temps until the fabric was washed. I have used these pens without any problems. Love them!
