I tested the pens too, and after removing the marks with heat, then rinsing and putting the fabric in the freezer, no ink reappeared.

I have absolutely NO intentions EVER to have my house get to below freezing temperatures inside for an extended amount of time, and if it does, I will clearly have a profound problem with my heating system and lines reappearing on my quilt will be the least of my worries!

Also, in the linked experiment, it was only the lines that were starched AFTER they were drawn that re-appeared after washing and freezing. So apparently starch sets the ink. But I would not use this pen first, then starch, because don't you have to press starched fabric, which would effectively remove all the lines you just drew? Maybe it's because I only make quilts for use, not shows or display, but I can not see myself ever starching my quilt top once it's completed, sandwiched, and being quilted.

I also can never forsee a situation where my unwashed quilts will be spending extended amounts of time in freezing temperatures.

Maybe those who live in really cold climates that do store their unwashed quilts outside in the winter would want to reconsider using these pens.

Cathryn, I'm in total agreement with you. I, too, make quilts only for use and would not starch and iron them after ithey're completed. I guess I'm a risk taker, but I can't imagine any situation where my home would get below freezing. Even if the power went out in the coldest part of winter, we'd use the fireplace.

I'm not so much worried about my home getting below freezing, I'm more worried about sending something in the mail. DH's parents live in Alberta, so we send them things quite frequently. In the middle of winter those postal trucks can get quite cold!! But the good news is that washing seems to remove them completely so even the coldest postal truck can't bring them back :)

I thought that the ink only reappeared in cold temps until the fabric was washed. I have used these pens without any problems. Love them!
