How many of you use a binding and miter tool? Dos it help or not so much?
I have one - it works if you follow the instructions, I didnt follow them the first time I used it, I used guestimates instead of measuring and it didnt work out right, my fault not the tools
I have a binding tool, it never helped. I lost it somewhere in my sewing room, and I'm not sad. I use a miter ruler and have developed my own method which works pretty well. More than once i've cut it the wrong way and it left a big hole, so I had to insert a patch. This is always a scary moment for me when I make that cut! But I can fix my mistkes, so I get the binding done and it looks pretty smooth.
Hey
I have a binding tool, but I must admit, I have used it only twice... I always have to watch the video to get it right. So I mostly finish the binding in my own way.. works for me.
I have a binding tool.....took me a couple of times to learn to use it and now I love it. I use it every time I put binding on.
I just started quilting and I bought the binding tool straight away. I also have to watch the tutorial every time I use it, but every time I use it I am getting better and better at it. Now I have a hand written set of instructions that can get me through it instead of relying on the videos but it is the same with all quilting - practice makes ... better. lol
I use the binding tool sold here at M*. It is so quick and easy to use and I get perfect results every time. :)
I bought the binding tool right after I joined the forum last year. I use it and like it. But, if you want a different width binding it doesn't work (ask me how I know), which didn't make sense to me. I don't know if I did something wrong or not.
I have used the binding tool and it worked when using the right width binding, but it requires that you change your process if you use a different width binding as Martha says. I like my bindings a little wider so I found a youtube video describing a process for finishing off the ends of your binding that does not require any tool or measuring at all and can be used for any width binding. I LOVE this new process and use it all the time now for my bindings.
Check out the video here and try practicing her method on a small sample quilt sandwich to see how it works. Make sure you leave long enough ends to work with because that makes a big difference in how easy it is to do. Use at least 8-10" long tails. This process really makes sense and seems so easy to me now.

I have the binding tool and use it faithfully for every binding. Works great! It takes you a few times before you are comfortable with it but the results are perfect!
I have the binding tool and love it. Like Susan said it does a take a couple of times to get the hang of it but it does work.
I have the binding tool...it worked perfetly the first time I used it...the last couple times I watched the video and it still didn't come out right...had to do my own thing...I'll keep trying though!!!
I use the binding tool as well as the pocket technique...both work fine!
I have the binding tool, but I found a much simpler way without it. I was always having to watch the video to use it, and this method works great and you can use different widths of bindings too.

I'm with Marebear. I use the tutorial method off of connecting threads also. It's pretty much foolproof.
Never used it, but can see how it would help.
I use a Fons and Porter binding tool, but every time I use it I have to read the directions. Once I just could not get it right, slept on it. The next morning it was like "A-HA!" and I haven't been able to duplicate that process since. I have my own little method I saw on a tutorial, sort of a cheater's way, but it works. It really depends on my mood.
I think I'll try this and see how it works for me. I haven't tried to make a different size binding but I can see how the binding tool wouldn't work on a larger binding.
I watched the tutorial from Connecting Threads too....but I think I'd be afraid to cut the ends off my binding before stitching it together.
