Just so everyone knows and can quit passing judgement on the earlier post, the client and I have come to an agreement on a price that we are both happy with.
Now the quilt police can quit fretting.

glad you got it worked out
Glad it all worked out for you :)
Kellie, glad you are both happy! :)
It may seem like there is a quilting police, but I believe that's because there is a consumer involved. We're not talking about a swap where we're all joining in and exchanging blocks, knowing that we're doing in for fun and friendship.
I cringe when I look on Etsy and see what folks are selling great quilts for! Material, quilting, labor, great color and pattern layout all for $150 - $250 for a lapsize...nuts, way too low! The close-up shots show wonderful workmanship. Clearly they are charging way too low an hourly rate.
We love to support each other here on the forum, to encourage when one is down and stuck. Yet when it comes to charging an hour rate and what standard of workmanship goes with each level of rate - that is a tricky subject on this forum. lol It's almost like religion and politics, folks feelings get hurt, some folks don't want to hear anything negative, some folks like to play ostrich, if they can hear it, see it...it ain't happening. A sad way to live.
I would hope you would share the final settled price for all to learn from, but I understand if you don't. Nothing I said was ment to be mean, just to make you understand that to grow your craft, you need to practice. When a hired job has problems because of lack of experience, you forge on but don't bill the customer those losing hours 'cause that's unethical and bad business practice that will bite you in the ars in the long run. This advise applies to any business not just graphic design/printing.
The next quilt will be easier and I wish you many mini quilt binding practices in the mean time.
Ruby
Ruby, my witchyness with a Capital B from above was about people who kept pounding it the ground about the workmanship/binding issues that i had and would not read MY post about taking the binding OFF and starting over but yet when others would comment they would say that a member had not read the entire post correctly..... and it was an every post problem... so much so that I really looked to see how to remove a thread, needless to say i couldn't find it. I wanted everyones opinion and told everyone that, did i expect pats on the back and WOW that looks great, no I did not. What i did expect and did not get was some solutions to the issues THAT I, MYSELF RAISED. I got discouraged to the point of quitting then slept on it, The next day I was determined to not let this one get the best of me, missouri stubborness I quess. If i want discouragement, I'll go to my family.
Sorry to rant here but that is the way it is/was

So sorry if I hurt your feelings, that was not my intent. I just felt that some people were giving unreal expectations, to you for the quality of the workmanship involved. I even offered to bind it for you at no charge. Like Ruby said quilt pricing is a touchy subject based on quality of workmanship. Did not mean to offend anyone. Wish people from now on would not ask advice about pricing quilts. To many factors involved.
As much as I was in awe this past week over the foster kids' quilts and the loving generosity of the quilters on this site, I am now saddened by the angst of this thread. Hopefully, we can all take a breath and move on. I pray for peace.
Put it behind you Kellie and move on because if you quit you'll never know what you could have done.....today is another day....happy quilting :)
Keep on quilting, Kellie! We all love you and want to keep you as a forum friend! The friendships we've made here and the advice people try to give when asked are to be treasured, but taken as you would from any circle of friends. You take some advice and let others go.
A good friend of mine who is an adventurous quilter, saw some of my earliest quilts. I was using the same pattern, just using different colors. She made the comment on FB"Why don't you use a different pattern?". I wasn't expecting that, and it hurt my feelings. But it spurred me to venture out to try new patterns, and I'm very thankful that I was pushed out of my comfort zone to improve.
I guess "No pain, no gain" is a very true statement.
Kellie,
I watched the other thread with interest because I've had similar experiences; with cake, not Quilts! I'm way, way behind your skill and experience and so cannot comment! :)
Things like this only hurt because your Quilting really matters to you. It's hard to face discouragement (especially from family, I know!) when the matter in hand is one near to your heart. You and your customer have agreed terms and both are happy. Truly, that is what matters. You have learned so much from this experience and, when the dust settles, this hard-won foundation is something you can build on.
I'm going to watch your gallery and threads with interest; I think you haven't even broken the surface of what you can do.
I would like to apologize to the forum for getting snippy. It was uncalled for. I am sorry. kellie
Hey, Kellie! Thanks for saying that, although I don't think you needed to.
Now, are the Rubber Duckies going to be showing up? I think you were thinking of making something for a pregnant friend. I love those Duckies, and really need to have an excuse to use them in a quilt myself. No pregies that I know, and my one friend who was pregnant (second time in 21 years--new baby has a 21 year old brother!) gave birth a couple of weeks ago. Not too many of my friends are pregnant, when you are in our age category, it better not happen!
Oh yes Jean they will be showing up I'm wanting to get that one started soon... I'm still working on a pattern in my head. I'm really thinking a D9P instead of the dresdens. I think it would show off the fabric better and if i use some solids with it, maybe a yellow blue/green mix. I'm really trying to stay as neutral as possible. kellie
And, maybe, just maybe one of these days I'll share a funny RUBBER DUCKIE story . . . MAYBE.
That sounds darling! I think that would be so cute. Let me know if yu need more ducks, they finally showed up at my closest Hancocks. I made a d9p baby quilt for one of my friends and it turned out very cute. She 's the one I mentioned who had her second child 21 years after the first. Needless to say, they are over the moon over having a baby again. But she just finished her doctorate and having a baby has certainly altered her career path!
Kellie, glad you're not giving up on quilting AND this forum. I'm sure no one intentionally wrote anything to hurt your feelings. You know that sometimes the written word comes across differently than if we spoke it. You cannot 'hear' inflection, etc., when something is typed. AND, opinions are just like bottoms, everyone has one. (Like the way I cleaned that up?) Love you and can't wait to see pictures of future creations.
Way cool Kellie! Appreciate it and also agree with Becki...we all have opinions and (_|_)s. lol
I love Jenny's tutorials, however I'm a details person I work within 1/32" in commercial print layouts - I also have a financial background (I balance my accounts down to the penny - I know I'm sick lol). Therefore I look on YouTube for other professional quilting instructors, who might have the subject I'm having problems covered in more details. I'm also a visual/audio learner, all these things together make a difference as to how fast I can pick up a new aspect in a job/hobby.
We know you have the talent within you, we are all here together to support each other and like friends we should also be able tell our sister friend something she might not want to really hear. I know that you asked for all opinions and so would I. I want to improve my work just like you. :)
Happy trails and let's make some beautiful quilts together. I'm getting ready to cut fabric for Lily (one of the foster children) this morning.
Huggers, Ruby
Pictures of above said quilt are in my quilt album if you want to look. some are very blury. sorry all I have is camera on the phone. kel
Way to go, Kellie! You fought the binding, but you won! ( some song is passing through my head on that!)
You did a wonderful job on the replaced binding. Very proud of you for sticking with it.
To all, I love you guys; this is such a great place and we are all in this addiction called quilting together. Ain't life grand?
