Unhappy To Quilt or Not to Quilt..

Is anyone out here having a hard time getting in the groove of quilting also or is it just me?

I could say to clean or not to clean, or to work or not to work, but never to quilt or not to quilt. I always want to do that!

I know what you mean I'm like that sometimes too. Last night I went to my building with plans to quilt - well I finished up a pincushion and then just started cleaning up my building. I've got some quilts to make and need to get on it - so maybe I'll get one started tonight.

No you are not the only one who gets into that funk. I have also been there. It will come back.

I definately get in my slumps, especially when I have to work through the school year - I get really motivated in the summer when I am off all day, and the other times I get in a slump is when I have to keep dragging stuff up and downstairs for this or that to get some quilting done. Even though there is a 'room' - really should call it 'an area' where I store it all, it is not the ideal place to sit and sew. Maybe if I can have DH put walls up and a door in, it would be a room for me to actually go in to.
I think most of us go through time periods where we just need a break. There's nothing wrong with that.

I take breaks too. I just finished up a marathon session on Monday (5 quilts in 2 weeks) so now I'll take a break, but still maybe sew a bag or a pincushion, or some other small project. If you want inspiration, just look at albums here - I know that always inspires me.

I think we all take a break from quilting from time to time, but the enthusiasm and drive to quilt always comes back. I've been away from my machine for over two weeks and can't wait to get started again.

I say this because it has taken me 6 years to finish a quilt I took a class for 6 years ago. The LQS no longer has classes so I'm on my own. I have family constantly telling me not to quilt and reminding me how long it takes to make a quilt. Then I look at how long it has taken me to finish my first which is in no way well enough to be sold. But good enough to be loved by my dd she's so sweet. I'm told how I'm wasting my time over and over. I'm not sure how to take that or if that should drive me to quilt even more but I'm very discouraged right now. I'm not new to sewing but I look at quilts here and feel it's way above my league. Also I go to pick out fabric and I'm a color blind quilter so I have trouble matching colors and tones which is an issue come on now, a color blind quilter, what a combination!!! Ladies in my local QS when I asked for help looked at me like I was purple with green stripes and red polka dots and orange triangles when I asked them for help matching colors or tones. They had no time for me and quickly gave me the shake off. I'm very discouraged. I wanted to learn to make baby quilts and lap quilts to sell some day soon. But my machine is not large enough to make bed quilts how is everyone here making large quilts. I don't want to pay someone else to make quilts for me that can get to be expensive.

I take breaks from different hobbies all the time. I actually get bored with one hobby, but it aside and start something else. Right now with my sewing machine broke I am not quilting/sewing anything but I have been doing a little crocheting. I will get bored with that and then go to painting/drawing or writing poetry.... I do have some hand-sewing I could do, but I just can't get into that.
