Re: To Quilt or Not to Quilt..
Sewsoft don't let other people discourage you from something you like. Quilting does take time and patience. If you have a good friend or family member that will go with you to help you pick out fabric see if they will help. I get in funks but I think mine is caused by attitudes of my family. I have finally finished my third grandson's Christmas stocking that I have been crosstitching since he was born last year. I have to get one more done by Thanksgiving so I can give it to my niece for her son. I did one for her daughter 6 years ago. My mother in law has turned that over to me now. She crosstitched stockings for the 7 grandchildren and I now have the greats and any to follow.
I also crochet on occasion. If I'm not sewing I'm doing something while watching tv at night or if we go to an event that I can take some kind of hand work with me I do.
Go with your heart Sewsoft. Don't give up.
Re: To Quilt or Not to Quilt..
I know quilting takes time that's why you don't just make quilts for just anyone but someone that will appreciate them. I really enjoy my sewing machine I learned to sew at the age of nine and has been my "Calgo* take me away " so to speak. So I can't give it up I always go back to it.
Re: To Quilt or Not to Quilt..
Sewsoft, I think that if you explained that you are color-blind peoples attitude would immediately change and they would stumble over each other to help! I can not do big quilts either. The biggest one I have done so far is "Ashleas Quilt" (in my albums) and I ended up hand quilting it because I could not manage it on my machine. I will get there but I will be patient with myself. All Good things take time. Also, I just did my 1st rag quilt and that was so much fun!!!! So you might consider that too. I hope you can find a BFF to help you out!
Re: To Quilt or Not to Quilt..
another option for you would be precuts as they are already matched and you can ask for suggestions on border fabric...most store clerks and the internet also will help you...just have to tell them you are color blind....it happens...hope this suggestion helps you...there is also kits out there...don't let anyone turn you off of something you enjoy!
Re: To Quilt or Not to Quilt..
I haven't quilted since April when I finished my Mom's quilt, but it's because we have a VERY large yard, big vegetable garden, two big flower beds and a pond area to take care of. There is always something that needs to be done. Oh, and I forgot that I haven't done my Spring cleaning because I was busy tearing apart one flower bed and redoing it. So now I'm into my house cleaning. I won't be quilting until the Fall...And then watch out!
Re: To Quilt or Not to Quilt..
I could never ever get tired of quilting. I did not do it for over 2 years because of a personal family tragedy, and have just in the past 6 months gotten back in to it. You should never let anyone discourage you from doing something you love to do. Personally I would rather make quilts than anything else, up to, and including eating, which on occasion I forget about when DH is gone. I would agree about the pre-cuts if you have color blindness. Maybe you just need to work on something different, than the one you have been struggling with for 6 yrs. Do it because you love it, you don't need any other reason.
