Default Suggestions or Ideas for Decorative Yarn??

Hi everyone, I found this yarn at a garage sale this weekend.....debated on whether to get it. Then decided it was too pretty to pass up. After searching for awhile I found out that it's called ladder yarn. I was hoping to use it with quilting in some way...not quite sure how yet. Has anyone ever seen this used on quilts in any way? Or does anybody had any ideas or how to's to add this yarn as a decorative look to a quilt or wall hanging? Not sure if it can be used in a quilting project or not, but thought I would see what ideas all of you might have. Thanks.

GrammaBabs is the forum knitter that I know of. Other than stitching it on the top of something like a crazy quilt, I'm not sure how you could use it.

I have never seen that before. Looks like it is used for knitting or crocheting, but not for quilting. Like someone else said, you could use it as an embelishment for a quilt block. Try sewing it down on some scrap fabric, maybe with a zig zag.

It's really unique and very pretty...not sure how you would use it on a quilt. I'm sure someone will offer you a terrific idea.

Pretty! Not sure about using it in a quilt, but people use it to sew into necklaces. I actually took a class where they had all kinds of threads like that and somehow we twisted it all together and put a clasp on it. It hangs down around your chest. The class was several years ago so I don't remember the exact instructions. There must be something on the internet though on what else you could use it for.

It's used for making scarves and shawls with some bling to them. As for embellishing a quilt, well hang a few pieces around your sewing area and inspiration may just hit ya!

I knitted several eternity scarves for the hospital craft fair and they sold like hotcakes! They don't make ladder yarn anymore....I had to order it off the internet and paid a fortune for it. With the leftover yarn, I crocheted some necklaces and added beads. I am sure you could use them to embellish a quilt, just check to make sure you can wash the yarn. Some of the brands you need to dry clean. Good luck with your project! A great find!

As well and silky scarves, I've used it double thickness and made necklaces using French Knitting (an updated version of the old cotton reel and nails though)

I used to demonstate this technique with a lady called Ingrid de Vane at craft shows in the UK a couple of years ago - here's a link to her site showing some of the other products - she also uses ribbons, silks and other fancy yarns.

Thanks for the responses. I'll have to check on machine wash or dry clean with this yarn. I had not about that. I don't know how to knit, but I might try using some of it on a practice piece of quilting. Thanks again.
