Re: She is at rest
Lisa,
You are in my prayers. My Mom passed away in 2006....Dad in 1994. When my dad passed away I had each one of the grandkids ( and we three girls ) make a 12 x 12 quilt square, using colored markers. I gave each of the 12 grandkids, and the 3 son-in-laws and we 3 girls each a white square of broadcloth and asked them to "Draw" me a memory of Daddy / Grandpa ( a couple of the grandkids wrote out a certain "time" they enjoyed with Grandpa instead of drawing.....)
When they were done I asked each of the kids and my BIL's and my sisters to bring their finished square to me, so I could sew it together ( I set up my sewing machine in the dinning room at my parents home ) .....After the squares were sewn together, I put Christmas flannel on as a backing.
(Christmas was my Dad's favorite holiday )
The next day I went to the funeral home a little early, thinking I would just put the "quilt" in the casket with Daddy.....the funeral director who is a personal friend of the family, was already there when I came in and he asked me what I had in my hands. When I showed him the quilt, he was amazed.....He asked me to wait a few minutes and came out with two plant stands, some thumb tacks and a long 1" x 3" board......He took the quilt from me, and tacked it to the 1" x 3". After putting the plant stands up as high as they would go, he then took the quilt ( that was attached to the board ) and placed it ( so that it was hanging from the board ) between each of the plant stands....
Everyone that came to the visitation(s) was amazed........After the funeral we three girls folded up the quilt, and together we put it in the casket with Daddy.....
We also did the same thing for my Mom. Although the first quilt ( for Daddy ) was made in 1994, I have seen "Memory Kits" in fabric stores to make these.....My children still talk about doing their square, and the making of the quilt.
In Sympathy,

Re: She is at rest
Lisa my prayers are with you for peace of mind and heart. Mom IS in a better place and I know that is a cliche, but I truly believe it. How wonderful it is when we can recall the love of another and pass it on through the generations. Those memories and that love is a part of your mom that will always be with you. ((((())))
