Conversation Between Jean Sewing Machine and kelliedi

  1. Kellie, I had a whole long post written, but this message board won't let me post one that long. I posted how I make my sandwich and quilt it. If you want me to send it to you, I could do it via email, and not have to worry about how long it gets! Jean
  2. Kellie, I did see it and thought it looked better. I think mitering corners is a skill that works well sometimes and sometimes not. I find if I do that fold up then fold down thing, if I leave a little extra as I fold up then down, that I have more room to fold down when I am sewing it down on the second side. It was hard for me to tell, did you use multiple fabrics for your border? I am always trying NOT to have a seam where you piece the binding sections right by the corner that I'm trying to miter, because all that extra bulk is hard to incorporate into the binding and make it smooth at the corner. Are you using the 2--1/2" strip, folded in half, doing a 1/4" seam to put it on the first side and then machine sewing it? This is how I do it. I use the same method Jenny shows in her Machine Binding video tutorial.

Another thing I want to know is this--before you sew on your binding, do you sew the edges of the top, batting and binding together?

    Jean
  3. Hey Jean just wanted to say thanks for all the encouragement and of course the ducky material. You won't beleive what i found at WM in a small town south of here.... duck fabric. Yeah i got some.... anywho... can you do me a big favor? look at the pictures in my album, Quilts, and tell me if the beach quilt looks better not that I cut off the binding and put a different one on. If you think it is not any better tell me that too. Really.
What i got snippy about is that anutiemern and hands off its mine kept going on and on about how I didn't miter the corners and that it was a tied quilt. They wouldn't read my replies as to me taking the binding off and kept telling everyone that she had already paid for the material, which i disclosed.

I don't want to put you in the middle but I do trust that you will tell like it is too.
I know you are one busy woman so whenever you get a chance that would be great.
    kellie
